Receiving Badminton serve

When getting ready to receive a serve, it is important to keep both legs slightly bent and the left foot slightly forward (right foot, for left-handed players). Holding the racket directly in front of you at the same height as the net or a few inches higher. This stance will allow the receiver to react quickly and attack directly during a high or low serve.

Common mistakes
Some players stand-up straight and keep their racket lowered on their side. This hinders their speed when needing to react quickly to a serve, often swinging too late and losing the opportunity to attack.

If a player takes an offensive stance which he doesn't use, he can simply swing and lower the racket. With the racket under the net height, it is impossible to efficiently swing at a smash when the racket needs to be raised before smashing and thus losing precious time.
